New students start in ASAT and Chapel Haven West

Students enjoyed July orientations in both the Asperger Syndrome Adult Transition (ASAT) program and Chapel Haven West in Tucson, AZ and have settled into both campuses.

The ASAT orientation in New Haven, CT took place on July 16. The daylong event included a program overview for parents, a chance for students and parents to meet and speak with each student’s point staffer, and a welcome barbecue for students at East Rock Park in New Haven. Students from California, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut all have a second-year student mentor assigned to them and are getting comfortable with all the components of the 24-month program.

Chapel Haven West’s orientation took place on Thursday, July 12. Students came from California, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Florida, Illinois and Washington, D.C. After families moved their young adults into their apartments with staff help, parents and students each received a program overview and a chance to meet with point staff. The day culminated in a reception held at the University Marriott on the campus of the University of Arizona. Chapel Haven president Michael Storz gave an update on the newly signed memorandum of understanding that opens the University of Arizona campus even more to Chapel Haven West students.
