February.

In addition to serving local, high quality, and unique food options, they are also dedicated to providing training and employment opportunities to adults with developmental disabilities, and in particular, adults with autism spectrum disorder. Not Your Typical Deli opened a concession stand at Wildcat raceway in Tucson, Arizona, and have hired three Chapel Haven West students to work in customer service, food prep, and expediting in their small but friendly kitchen.

CHW has also partnered with a local business in Tucson called Yada Yada Telecom. Yada Yada, a Tucson staple since 1985 with expertise in most major electronic equipment, provides businesses across the country (big and small) with a range of electronic needs. Their team has recently hired two of our students, who will be helping them prepare orders, and learning technical skills along the way.

Our work study program has been thriving as well. With students at internships ranging from the Botanical Gardens to the canteen at Southern AZ VA Health Care Systems to one of Jim Click’s business offices, our second year class is gaining valuable experience and knowledge every day, getting prepared to enter the work force with competitive skills.

One of the student’s supervisors at a work site recently commented: “Getting to see this student blossom and grow in his time here has been an incredible experience-and it is also so beneficial for us to have his help throughout the week!”
