Healthy Breakfast (Mon. 7-8am) 

Taught by Tammy Bumps

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It provides you with the energy and nutrients that lead to increased concentration.  Studies show that breakfast can be important in maintaining a healthy body weight.  In this class, community members will learn how to prepare basic but healthy meals for breakfast to help get their day off to a great start!

An Eye for Photography (Mon. 3-4pm) 

Taught by Ron Guerrucci

Take this entry level photography class and learn how to take better pictures! You will explore the different photo features on your camera, smart phone, tablet, etc. For example, learn how to edit photos, adjust the colors, change the picture from color to black and white, etc. You will also practice how to best use natural as well as indoor lighting, take awesome portraits or selfies, and use computer programs to further edit your shots. A portion of the class will be spent outdoors at various scenic locations throughout New Haven County as well as time spent in the classroom learning more about photography while also using the computer to get creative with your photos. You must bring your own camera or device to each class – it can be a digital camera, tablet or smart phone.

Zumba (Mon. 6-7pm)

Taught by Alicia Prigodich

Alicia is a certified Zumba instructor and has been teaching Zumba Basic and Zumba Gold (for special populations) for two years. Join the fun of Zumba!  Together, we will take the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Learn moves from salsa, merengue, cumbia, and many more influential styles of dance.

Cooking for One (Tue. 4-5pm)

Taught by Tammy Bumps

Have you ever tried cooking for yourself and had too many leftovers? In this class, community members will learn how to break down recipes and prepare a selection of meals for one person. A review of food safety and sanitation will be covered.

UARTS-Connecting through Connectivity (Wed. 3-4pm)

Taught by Stephanie Berberich & Heather McDonald

Explore your creativity at the UARTS studio.  Paint and stencil a wooden sign, make a soy wax scented candle, dye a silk scarf or learn to silk screen. Students will be able to take home their product at the end of the workshop!

CH Crossfit (Thu. 3-4pm)

Taught by Justin Nassra

You’ve seen the Chapel Haven staff doing it, now Coach Justin is bringing CrossFit to the entire Chapel Haven communityThis is what to expect:

Dynamic Warmup which may include a short jog and stretches

-Technique Training in which you’ll work on the proper way to do exercises (can be anything from the proper way to squat to the proper way to lift weights)

-10-15 minute workout

-Cool Down which includes stretching

All exercises are modified to each person’s ability.  Justin will become very familiar with each CrossFitters abilities and limitations.  He is focused on proper technique so CrossFitters do not get injured.  Are you ready to be CHALLENGED????

Movie Mania (Thu. 4:30-6:30pm)

Taught by Nery Aldana

Lights, camera, action! Have fun watching movies with your friends! You will view and discuss movies of interest while learning about the plot, main characters, themes and symbolism.

Sports History (Fri. 10-11am)

Taught by Bill Angier

How much do you know about the history of your favorite sports?  This class is offered during an exciting time for sports fans: The baseball season is heading into October; The NFL and the NBA are just beginning to sort out who will make the headlines in the 2017-2018 season!  This class will focus on the rich stories of those three major sports – major events in sports history such as Red Sox selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees, The New York Jets winning the Super Bowl in 1969, and the creation of the NBA in Springfield Massachusetts!

What’s Happening?! (Fri. 1-2pm)

Taught by Mylissa Rockefeller

Let’s talk! Whatever is on your mind, we can discuss it. Relationships, love, fear, and self-esteem – you name it. We will focus on developing a positive attitude towards life’s struggles and work toward developing an upbeat outlook to overcome fear and failure.  Students will be encouraged to share their hopes, dreams and worries with understanding, non-judgmental peers and also to practice active listening and empathy as their peers share their own.  Developing a network of understanding friends is an important ingredient in living a healthy, happy life.  This class is a great start.
