Congrats to our seven honorees:
Chapel Haven Schleifer Center enjoyed an overflow crowd of 400-plus friends, families, staff and our own adults as we gathered April 28, 2019 at Anthony’s Ocean View for our annual Family Weekend Brunch.
We were delighted to recognize seven individuals who have joined the “30-Year” Club, signifying that they have lived 30 years with independence in our community. What a tremendous milestone! Special thanks to Board chair and parent Peggy Baker, who served as our emcee.

Wedding bells will ring for Allison and Jeff!
The festive event also included remarks by Mayor Toni N. Harp and the wedding announcement of Allison Haines and Jeff Blattmachr, who met at Chapel Haven Schleifer Center and will be married this July.
“He made my dreams come true and real even to be married which I will be this coming July,” Allison said at the podium. “I can’t wait to say ‘I do’ and to live together. Let’s just say, I have found a guy that has the same dreams as me, and with that mind, he is my angel that has touched my life, my heart, and soul forever. Please raise your glass to say thank you for every thing that he has done for me.”
Harriet and Len Schleifer gave an update on fundraising and the development of our new SAIL center. “We have raised a total of $45.5 million to transform the campus, create aging services and grow the endowment,” said Harriet to applause. “That is just incredible when you consider that our initial feasibility study indicated $14 million to $20 million. These funds are transformative and a serious investment in the future of our children and siblings.”

Along with the update from the Schleifers, the SLAM Collaborative gave an update on construction of the new SAIL center, which will allow adults to “age in place” at Chapel Haven in a non-institutional and vibrant setting.

Karen and Steven Gardner have issued a wellness challenge!
Parents Steven and Karen Gardner also announced their wellness challenge. “We have issued a matching challenge gift to create a truly incredible health and wellness program at Chapel Haven Schleifer Center,” Steve Gardner said. “This includes staff and student nutrition, exercise, stress management and so much more.”
