The news is out: Bill Angier, Ellen Rosenbaum and Kimberly LaManna are Chapel Haven Schleifer Center’s Biggest Losers!

Collectively, the three lost more than 80 pounds and 55% of their body fat competing in Trainer Kim Stack’s popular Biggest Loser Contest. The contest ran for five months and drew a record 43 participants, including adults and staff.

Kim said she was pleased that so many participated and she noted that many are repeat enrollees. Chapel Haven adult Keith Atkins, who was last year’s contest winner, came in fourth this year and he has continued to keep his weight off, plus he lost another 10 pounds.

The contest required each person to be weighed in each week in Chapel Haven’s fitness center. Kim posted results weekly in the fitness center based on percentage of weight lost each week.

REACH teacher Bill Angier came in first with a total lost of 13%, or 45 pounds. He won a gift card to Bob’s Stores. What is his advice? “Eat healthy and exercise. Be consistent,” he said. “I really didn’t give that much up. You can still eat the good stuff but only eat a little.” Along with watching his diet, Bill lifts weights, runs and is training for the Hartford Marathon.

Chapel Haven adult Ellen Rosenbaum came in second, with a loss of 35 pounds. “I’ve been drinking a protein shake every day,” she said. “I have fruit for breakfast and chicken or fish for dinner with salad and vegetables.” Ellen gave up carbs such as pasta, potatoes and rice. “I feel good,” she said, vowing that next year, she intends to take the top slot!

Chapel Haven Adult and administrative assistant Kim LaManna, who came in third with a 7% weight loss, said her secret was smaller portions. She found the contest “motivational. Just get out there and do it!”

Congrats to everyone who participated, you are all winners!
