Happy birthday to Chapel Haven Schleifer Center!

In 1972, in a modest multi-family house on Chapel Street in New Haven, Chapel Haven Schleifer Center (CHSC) opened its doors.
Founded by the visionary Rossman and Krass families, our program started with six adults and two staff who began the journey toward a thriving independent adult life.
Fast forward to today, fifty years later, and we are happily serving more than 250 individuals from all walks of life, touching the lives of thousands more family members, friends, and adults!
It’s time to celebrate!
Chapel Haven Schleifer Center’s 50th Anniversary Family Celebration is coming up in June and we have invited our entire CHSC community!
WhenSaturday, June 4, 1-7:30 p.m.
Where: Chapel Haven Schleifer Center, 1040 Whalley Avenue, New Haven
What: An open house celebration with tours, mixers, dinner under the big tent, and Night of Noise
Cost: $75 per person

  • CHSC 50th Anniversary Gala, September 30, 2022 at the New Haven Lawn Club
  • CHSC Faculty Appreciation Day
  • CHSC 50th Birthday Party for our adults and community members – Saturday, July 16, 2022
  • CHSC Family Connections Events – CHSC is launching a new series of Family Connections Events. The goal is to bring families together within geographical areas to build connections and friendship amongst our CHSC families. These are opportunities to meet CHSC President Michael Storz, who will provide an update on the “State of CHSC”, as well as many other members of CHSC program staff.  These events are being generously hosted by local families in their homes or other venues of their choosing. Currently, Family Connections Events are being planned in the following areas:
    • Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Westchester County, New York
    • Northern & Eastern Connecticut
    • New York City
    • New Jersey
    • Pennsylvania
    • Massachusetts
