Our hearts are heavy with the passing of legend Ed Asner, a longtime CHSC parent and a fierce autism advocate who thrilled us with his humor and his passion.

Of course, Mr. Asner is internationally renowned as the most decorated male performer in Emmys history. He received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2001 and thrilled us as Lou Grant in the Mary Tyler Moore Show, as Santa Claus in Elf and countless other productions.

But to us, he was much more. Father of a community member in the ASAT program, Ed was a fierce autism advocate, who founded the Ed Asner Family Center to “establish an oasis of creativity in every special needs community.” Read more about his connections to CHSC and Connecticut in this Hartford Courant tribute here: Ed Asner Kept Coming Back to CT

Stay tuned for plans underway to memorialize this treasured parent.
