History & Partnerships

History & Partnerships

Chapel Haven was created by parents who wanted to help their special needs children become truly independent.

Chapel Haven was founded by two pioneering families in a house on Chapel Street, in New Haven, CT, in 1972. That gives our agency 50-plus years of experience as a leader in the field of services for adults with disabilities.

Our longevity has helped Chapel Haven acquire key partnerships with every leading institution in our host community of New Haven, CT.

We are proud of our international, state and local accreditations. Chapel Haven is:

  • Nationally accredited through CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities)
  • Approved by the State Department of Education (CT, NJ) as a special education school
  • Licensed through the CT State Department of Developmental Services

In addition, the list below gives a sampling of the partnerships we have developed over time in a community that is well accepting of Chapel Haven, and that warmly embraces our mission. From our award-winning partnership with the Yale Center for British Art to our PAVE program at Yale-New Haven Hospital, our presence in a vibrant and small American city is a true benefit on many levels for our adults.
