Chapel Haven Earns International CARF Accreditation

Chapel Haven meets highest standards of excellence

Chapel Haven Schleifer Center (CHSC) is proud to be a CARF-accredited program and holds the highest level of accreditation afforded by CARF – a three-year term of accreditation.

The CARF accreditation demonstrates that CHSC’s model of service meets the highest international benchmarks of excellence.

This is the sixth consecutive CARF accreditation that has been awarded to CHSC.

Chapel Haven earned the designation through a rigorous peer review process, demonstrating to a team of surveyors during an on-site survey that Chapel Haven is committed to meeting CARF’s standards of excellence in all areas of programming.

Among CARF’s finding, the surveyors commended Chapel Haven for a number of strengths:

  • CHSC’s mission and core values are expressed clearly and serve as guiding principles for day-to-day operations
Chapel Haven’s President was commended as “vibrant, ambitious and accessible” to staff and persons served and “a culture of teamwork, cooperation and open communication is evidenced throughout the organization.”
  • CARF found Chapel Haven’s staff to be “caring professionals who are very responsive to accommodating the unique and varied needs of persons served. The enthusiasm with which the staff members do their work is impressive and infectious.”
  • CHSC was cited for its unique PAVE program at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Project PAVE (Partnership for Achievement Through Vocational Experience). The surveyors found that allowing Chapel Haven adults to spend a year learning skills and developing job readiness by working in hospital departments at Yale-New Haven Hospital readies them for job placement when the program is done.
  • Chapel Haven is widely recognized and respected for providing educational, vocational and residential supports for individuals with a variety of disabilities. “The organization employs a holistic approach to services that emphasizes empowerment and ensures that individual served and their families have the necessary supports…to be successful in all phases of their lives.”
  • Chapel Haven was cited for having successful partnerships with many community organizations and for providing a wide variety of course offerings, including adult continuing education. CARF was impressed with courses that include self-care, current events, recreation, money management, self-advocacy and social interactions.
