We are excited that our art show and author’s talk at the JCC of Greater New Haven and a column by CHSC PAVE intern Gillian Jasper received wonderful coverage in Shalom New Haven, a publication of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven.
Chapel Haven Schleifer Center has a robust partnership with the JCC of Greater New Haven that includes vocational placements and enjoyment by our adults of the recreational and social amenities offered at the facility.
About Gillian’s column
Gillian is a PAVE intern in the marketing department at the JCC and she also works in Cafe J. She wrote a column about her experience with cerebral palsy. She encouraged people to ask questions and said she is living a great life, even with CP. You can read her column here
About our art show
CHSC was honored to mount an an art show in the Hoos Family Art Gallery at the JCC of Greater New Haven for the month of February. The exhibit was still up in early March. ‘AWARENESS: Life As We See It Through a Neurodiverse Lens’ showcased incredible artwork, celebrated Disabilities Awareness Month, and featured CHSC community member Diana Bilezikian, who shared her personal experiences and life stories from her book, Dear Diana: Diana’s Guide to Independent Living for Adolescents and Young Adults With Different Learning Styles and Special Needs. Linda Friedlaender from the Yale Center for British Art led an insightful discussion on the collaborative journey between the Yale Center and Chapel Haven. Thank you to all who joined us for an event of beautiful artwork, inspiration, and learning!
