On May 1-2, Chapel Haven Schleifer Center participated in The Great Give and raised both awareness and seed funding for Celebrating our Diverse World.
We are proud that 52 donors contributed a total of $4,300 to bolster the important work of our Chapel Haven Schleifer Center Diversity Committee as we strive to create a truly welcoming and inclusive community. That work is synonymous with one of the four core values of Chapel Haven Schleifer Center, and that is dynamic diversity: creating an inclusive community that is equally accessible to all and to remove barriers to inclusion for historically marginalized groups.
All Great Give donations will support monthly activities of newly formed campus clubs and activities, including:
- the CHSC LGBQT+ Club
- The CHSC Judaism Club
- World Down Syndrome Awareness Day
- Pride Day
- Black History Month
- Autism Acceptance Day
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
- Educational forums with guest speakers to ensure our staff are well educated on diversity, inclusion and cultural competency
We look forward to continuing a robust calendar of quality programming that educates and informs our students and staff about diverse cultures and backgrounds. Having a seed fund for materials, refreshments and guest speakers will enhance our work.

Why does Diversity matter?
As a pioneering nonprofit in the field of disabilities, increasingly we are finding that our adults represent a wide range of abilities and neurodiversity. We are committed to nurturing as inclusive an environment as possible. Like other nonprofits, we believe it is important that we stand in favor of equity and justice and denounce racism, intolerance and injustice. The work of instilling our core values into every aspect of our operation is not easy but is important. With support from the community we are privileged to continue this work.

Last year, thanks to the generosity of thousands of donors, the efforts of participating organizations, and sponsorships, the event raised an impressive $3.43 million for a record number of 516 local nonprofits.
